About me
Deana Martin is a graduate of the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and has spent her entire legal career as a full-time public defender with the Marion County Public Defender Agency (MCPDA) where she is currently the Chief Trial Deputy. She’s also an adjunct professor at IU McKinney where she’s taught the National Trial Team and Interviewing and Counseling and currently teaches Trial Practice and the Criminal Defense Clinic. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for Indiana Public Defender Council, including as Board Chair, until she’d reached full term limits. Deana enjoys working with and mentoring law students, younger lawyers, and lawyers looking to challenge themselves. To that end, she has served as a faculty member at IPDC’s Trial Practice Institute, the National Defender Training Project Trial Advocacy Program at the University of Dayton School of Law, and the Public Defender Litigation Advocacy Institute in Faubush, Kentucky. Deana created, runs, and presents ant MCPDA’s Trial Practice Program. She’s given numerous presentations and CLE’s for IPDC and the MCPDA on topics from voir dire, evidence and objections, cross examination, client relationships & communication, OVWI, DNA, and many others.
Deana’s practice is primarily limited to clients facing the most severe charges and potential punishment or clients whose cases have significant forensic issues. In addition to training and mentoring other attorneys, she continues to try to improve her skills and service to her indigent clients. She has attended IPDC’s TPI program twice as a student, attended the National Criminal Defense College, attended the Kentucky Capital Defenders Institute, attended IPDC LWOP and Death Penalty Seminars, attended the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner three-day course, and twice attended the National Forensic College, in addition to attending numerous criminal defense focused CLE’s each year. On the personal side, Deana enjoys playing tennis, watching tennis, and spending time with her super sweet and adorable pit bulls, Deuce and Wimbledon. ADOPT DON’T SHOP!
