DAVID DAVILA is the Chief Investigator for the Federal Public Defender, Western District of Texas. He began his career with the FPD WD of Texas in June of 1989. He has handled a wide variety of complex cases including, white collar fraud, drug, RICO, immigration, bank robbery, counterfeiting, murder, human trafficking, Motion for New Trial – Brady Violation (Granted), Assimilative Crimes Act –Injury to a Child (Munchausen’s), Capital Death Penalty and Capital Habeas.
In 2008, he received the Outstanding Investigator of the Year Award from the National Association of Federal Defenders. In 2014-2016, he served as Mid-West Area Director for the National Defender Investigator Association. David has served on numerous training committees and in June of 2017 and May of 2019 served as a Presenter at the Federal Defender Supervisory Leadership Training. In November of 2018 served as a Presenter with the National Association for Public Defense. In July 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022, David served as a Faculty Presenter in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Chicago for the Defender Services Training Division – Paralegal and Investigator Skills Workshop. In May of 2024, David served as Faculty Presenter for Defender Services Training Division at the Federal Defender National Investigator and Paralegal Conference in Portland, Oregon. In 2024, David serves as an active member of the National Association for Public Defense - Supervisor Meetup. David has presented to the Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney’s in the Western District of Texas. Prior to his positon with the FPD WD of Texas, David worked as a paralegal with the San Antonio law firm of Brite, Drought, Bobbitt and Halter which specializes in business litigation. David a native Texan received his B.A. from Saint Mary’s University.
